Nyeri Hospice
Nyeri Hospice aims to not only provide quality palliative care to the terminally ill at an affordable cost but also to facilitate spiritual, emotional, and social support to both patients and their families. They mainly operate in central Kenya, taking care of the most vulnerable people in rural parts of Mt. Kenya. They also conduct cancer research with a local university, as many of their patients suffer from cancer. They have partnerships with both the Kenya Hospice and Palliative Care Association (KEHPCA) and African Palliative Care Association (APCA). They are mainly funded through well-wishers and local donors. In entering a partnership, they hope to participate in an exchange program and learn about the best palliative care practices from international partners. They also look forward to improving the quality of care for terminally ill patients and their families through the innovations and financial support they acquire from their partner. Their home-based care is very strong, but they would like to also expand services to include an inpatient care unit in order to cope with the increased demand for palliative care services.
